This was posted in one of my site's Q&A forums. I liked it so much, I thought I should share it with the general public.

Several months ago, my wife subscribed to a site (www.thegrocerygame.com) that has saved us hundreds of dollars over that time. For those who have used this, please forgive my long description.

For a fee, the site calculates potential savings based on your local store ads combined with available coupons found in your Sunday paper as well as online only coupons that you can print at home. The site knows the best deals based on a (roughly) twelve-week sale pattern that grocers follow for certain products and then provides a printable color coded list of advertised products that indicates when to stock up on great deals, when to buy a few, or when to buy only if needed. In some cases, we have gotten food items for free.

At this point, she can do this solo without the website, so we are cancelling the service and will save the fee. While this is not a means of stocking up for a cataclysmic event, we have been able to fill our pantry with commonly used foods and household items at significant savings.

My wonderful wife did this on her own as part of our overall cost-cutting plan. In our case, she does not read Dr. North's site daily like I do, but it has given her a great sense of pride and ownership in our financial strategy. I highly recommend.
