Chris Matthews is the attack dog moderator of Hardball. I don't watch it often. Katie Kouric got rich doing what Matthews does best: interrupting guests. Matthews is an also-ran on MSNBC.
Now he says he will be a supporter of Obama. His job is to "make this thing work, this new Presidency work."
What about the old Presidency? What did he do to make it work?
Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh is licking his chops. He will go into full-time attack dog mode. He will make millions doing so. (Matthews won't.) It will be "Let Limbaugh be Limbaugh."
Over the next four years, the myth of neutrality will get another series of body blows to the solar plexus.
The myth of neutrality is invoked by every special-interest group that has a hidden agenda, but which seeks broad public support. The fact is, the myth of neutrality is a con job. There is no neutrality. There is confusion. There is indifference -- lots and lots of indifference. But there is no neutrality. People do not analyze anything in terms of universally shared first principles. There are no such principles.
The mainstream media will give Obama a free ride for months, maybe years. They will play softball. But the economy and at least two failed wars in the Middle East will sink the Good Ship Change [We Need]. Then the mainstream media will look idiotic.
Limbaugh will be even richer.
The polarization of America will continue. So will the multiple polarizations of the Middle East.
What about me? What will I do? I will do what I do every time a new Administration comes into power: keep my hand upon my wallet and my back against the wall.
The economy is in bad shape. It will get worse. Neither Matthews nor Limbaugh is competent enough in this area to provide useful information.
I don't care if an analyst is pro- or anti-Obama. I want to know what economic effects his policies, and the policies of other power centers inside and outside the United States, are likely to have. I won't find out on entertainment shows masquerading as news shows. Neither will you.
