This multiple choice (multiple guess) test was created by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. It was given to a random sample of 2508 adult Americans. The sample was large enough to produce reliable statistical results.

The results are horrifying. The average (mean) test score was 49%.

The number of people who scored over 90% was 21. That is less than 1%. A teacher would grade this score as an A.

A total of 66 people achieved a score of 80 to 89.9%, which a teacher would grade as a B.

Only 185 earned 70 to 79.9%: a C.

A total of 445 earned a "D" score of 60 to 69.9%.

Almost 1800 got less than 60% correct.

These results indicate that the American educational system has flunked.
