Create Repair Videos

Can you repair anything? If you can, produce a video on how to do it.

You need a camcorder with a jack input for a separate microphone.

Use a lapel microphone. You can buy one for under $30 from Radio Shack.

Put the camcorder on a tripod.

You can rent this for a day from a local camera store.

Make a trial run. Have someone aim the camcorder at whatever you are doing. Narrate it.

Do several of these videos.

Post them on www.blip.tv. Then use the embed feature to post them on a free blog site like www.Blogger.com or www.WordPress.com.

The idea is to get your first blog site going.

You can print up business cards using Avery labels and your existing word processor.

Why do all this? To begin creating a weekend side business. The videos will position you as an expert.

Create a forum. Let people ask questions.

When locals get in a jam, they'll call you for help. Do this on weekends.

You need a second income. This is a cheap way to develop the skills you need for any career. But start a second one while you're learning.

You could get fired. Then what? You need a fall-back plan.
