A Proofreading Strategy

Do you have a proofreader? It helps to have someone with an eagle eye who can spot mistakes.

One way to get a proofreader is to enter into an exchange relationship. He checks your work. You check his.

For anything written, here is the best way to proof it. Print out two copies of whatever it is you want proofed. He gets one copy. You get the other.

He reads the text aloud. You follow along. If, at any point, you are tempted to add, "by that, I meant this," make a check mark on your copy. Rewrite this section.

This system works because it helps to hear what you have written. Yes, you can read it. But when you hear it, you usually find that things are not quite right. Make them right.

For important documents, you want to get them right. This proofreading approach can provide near-perfect copy.

Note: if you can't persuade a buddy to do this with you, maybe this program will do the trick: Text Aloud.
