JibJab Does Barack Obama

Gary North

Nov. 16, 2009

This cartoon video in on target. It gets to the heart of the matter: the media's positioning of the President as superhero. It identifies several of Obama's personal traits that seem positive, such as his speaking ability and coolness under pressure. It makes the point: so far, his presidency has been about spending money and promising change.

It is not a mean-spirited video. But it makes the point that the hype exceeds reality. It uses humor to expose the gap between image and reality.

The video visually poonts to the magnitude of the problems facing his administration (huge), the magnitude of Obama's image (huge), and the extent of the results (minimal).

This message should be applied to all Presidents all of the time. It is the illusion of the age that the President of the United States can deliver us from evil.

Humor is an effective tool. JibJab is nonpartisan. The company goes for a broad audience. It sells trinkets to make money. The video's message is one of common sense: there are no superheroes. That message is much needed today.

I especially appreciated the visual of the Federal Reserve System's building as the money source: a kind of piggy bank. The video does not identify this building. It relies on public knowledge. This knowledge is greater than ever before: a good sign.

This video will get a lot of views. This YouTube version is approaching 1.5 million.

in 2004, we had a choice between Skull & Bones members.

We can look forward to 2012. Think of the great choices we will have then. It will between two people who will each tell the public that he has a low-pain plan to deal with the Federal deficit, 2013-2017, i.e., suicidal megalomaniacs.
