They say that a church's core membership can be seen Wednesday evening at the prayer meeting. If this is true, the churches of America have very small hard core memberships.
Unity Covenant Church has a large core membership. It is located on a country road that I drove down for seven years. The church was nothing to look at in 1998. Before I left in 2005, it had doubled the size of its facility. There is nothing there, except the church. With Google Maps, you can take a 360-degree tour of the street, which is eerie. The big building attached to the back of the front building was not there in 1998.
It had a full parking lot on Wednesday evenings in 2005. I don't know how they did it, because its parking lot was full on Wednesdays in 1998. Drop off?
I have never seen any other church with a full parking lot on Wednesday evenings.
It can be done. I don't know how, but it can be done. If there is a model for sustained church prayer in the United States, this congregation is it.
