Zip Code Prayer

Prayer life is best understood as a series of concentric circles. People are most highly focused on their own needs and desires. This is as it should be. Each of us is individually responsible before God.

Next, people pray for those they come in contact with at church. They pray for their local congregations.

They pray for conditions in their towns when things are bad. They tend not to pray for things geographically close to them when times are good.

People need to see victories with their own eyes. They see very few. So, they give up praying. They let things slide.

I would like to see a decentralized system of prayer commitments. These should start with people's zip codes or (outside the U.S.A.) post codes. People would commit to a few minutes each day to pray for revival and healing in their communities.
