Why I Canceled My Subscription to This Site Without Ever Asking a Question

Barry Ames

A lot of people cancel without ever asking a question. I think over 50% of those who cancel never post anything. This baffles me. On the subscription form, we read:

Now, I am going to do what no publisher ever does. I am asking you not to subscribe if you do not intend to ask questions. This site hinges on the Q&A forums. People ask questions. Others answer.

I don't want to take your money under false pretenses. The #1 value of this site is the system of forums. If you have no intention of ever asking any questions, then you really should not subscribe. Make this resolve: "I will post a question within three days."

I have asked many such people why they canceled without asking a question. This man was the first to provide an answer. -- Gary North

Your premise, that I joined to get a "specific answer to a specific question" is simply inaccurate, that's all. I was led to your site by the "NeverSayRetire" link and found the information there useful and intuitively correct.

You have grossly underestimated the value of your own work if you believe there is nothing currently posted that is worthy of a subscription. I've learned a lot in just the few short months that I've been a member, have recommended your site to others and regret having to cancel. Alas, as a blue collar guy with a blue collar budget in the worst economy of a lifetime, the financial decision to cancel my subscription was made for me.

I hope this news eases your mind.
