Spokeo and Privacy

This site posts names and addresses of people all over the USA. Here is how it works.

You type in the name, and it gives a list of people with that name, arranged alphabetically by state. Then it gives you the person's address. It also gives a map where the person lives.

I am not on the list. My son-in-law is.

The outfit gets these names from social network sites.

I am glad that I am not yet in the data base. Yet I have used it search for people. So far, the service has not worked well for me, but I can see that it will be gigantic over time. It has been on-line for under two months.

Get the privacy settings in Facebook activated. Here's how:

To get off Spokeo's system, do the following.

1) Search for your name on Spokeo, find your listing and select it.

2) Once you've selected your listing you will copy the URL (Should look something like http://www.spokeo.com/search?q=al%20gore#Tennessee:1238890967/info )

3) Once you've copied your URL go down to the bottom right hand of your web browser and select 'Privacy' (I wonder why they make it so small? hmmm)

4) Follow the remaining steps (enter URL, email, Code)

5) Check your email and click the link in your email to verify your removal.
