These states are facing budget shortfalls of immense proportions: California, Oklahoma. Arizona, Illinois, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Colorado, and Michigan. (http://bit.ly/StateBudgets) Three of these are huge: California, Illinois, and New york. They have votes in Congress.
We see once again that profligacy rules in boom times, and kick-the-can reigns in worse times.
We have yet to see truly bad news. It's pretty bad today over $3 trillion in unfunded liabilities.
