Woody Jenkins' Facebook Strategy to Change America
July 16, 2011
I have known Woody Jenkins for 30 years. He has been a successful journalist with political experience: 28 years in the legislature. He came very close to being elected U.S. Senator: 5,000 votes. His background is here: www.WoodyJenkins.com.
He is concerned that Obama had 450,000 donors in the first quarter of 2011. He has 22 million "friends" on Facebook. How can any Republican candidate overcome this?
He has an idea. In 2010, there were 40,000 donors to Republican Senate and House candidates who gave $1,000 or more.
The average age of donors who support Republicans is 70. They are mostly women.
They are not online. They read newspapers.
Woody publishes a local newspaper in Lousisana. He has a idea. Publish an easy-to-read newspaper. Older donors will read it. Its main focus: support the Republican candidate, who will be excoriated as a person without experience or a heart. The donors will need moral reinforcement
How do you get the newspaper to them? By seeking donors who will send a subscription for $24, or $2,400 for 100 subscriptions.
He also has a second service: a Facebook site. He sends out up to a dozen articles a day: links.
He started 4 weeks ago with 7 friends. Today, he has 10,500.
He rents Facebook names to get the word out. He is doing so on a low-cost basis. He hopes to build it to 30,000 within a few months. His goal: one million. He sees Facebook as a means of edcating people. He hopes that the printed newspaper and its Website (www.Liberty-Today.com) will generate enough money to sustain advertising on Facebook.
He can track readers who click through to read a story he sends. Almost 900,000 stories have been been read in 4 weeks. He can track this through click-throughs.
Faebook will bring readers to the Website. That, at least, is his strategy.
This is great. It shows what can be done to build an audience. For launching a new businsss, this seems ideal. This one is an educational venture.
If you want to send some money to send subscriptions to the 40,000 Republican donors, contact him at libertytoday@hotmail for information.
It's worth testing. He will see if Facebook brings paid subscribers. If it does, he can buy more Facebook ads. If not, it will still grow.
I will be interested to see if this marketing strategy works.
