Link Shorteners

Gary North

July 16, 2011

Link shorteners are crucial for my work. I used to use tinyurl, but I have switched to bit.ly. Here's why.

Bit.ly is widely used. It has raised tens of millions of dollars in capital. It's not going away anytime soon. A bit.ly link is as close to forever as I can get for my links.

Second, bit.ly allows me to assign words to the links. The other programs assign meaningless numbers and letters. These are very hard to recall. I can recall a good bit.ly link.

I use them for Web sites that I have created. So, my YouTube channel is locked up permanently:

http://bit.ly/garynorthvideos

http://bit.ly/northvideos

Why do I care? Because a YouTube channel is hard to find. So, in all future YouTube videos that I post on drgarynorth, I will add my link: http://bit.ly/GaryNorthVideos. That way, a person can find all of my videos on that channel.

Click on any of the links. Watch the videos on how to set up your YouTube channel. Set it up today, and then go to bit.ly and create short links. Lock in your online real estate forever.

You must sign in to use the custom link feature. I use it almost every day. I use bit.ly links in my articles in Reality Check.
