The Issue of the Tithe

For a nation in a debt crisis, the issue of the tithe is relevant. What if Congress had paid attention to its budget as carefully as tithers pay attention to theirs?

The CBS News Sunday Morning program ran a 9-minute segment on tithing. It's pretty good for 9 minutes.

I wrote a book in 1994 on tithing, which you can download for free: Tithing and the Church. I wrote another that was published in 2010, The Covenantal Tithe. I wrote a chapter in a 2010 debate book with four views, Perspectives on Tithing.

I spend considerable space in The Covenantal Tithe to refuting one of the supposed experts interviewed in the video, Kelly. To say that he is theologically incompetent on this issue does not do him justice. He would have to improve remarkably to reach the level of incompetence.

This is a continuing issue in Christian circles. Relatively few Christians tithe. Those who do tithe find out early how to manage their budgets. Those who do not tithe too often find themselves deep in debt.

There is a reason why debt-deliverance teacher Dave Ramsey has sold so many books and has so many Christian listeners and viewers. They did not tithe. Now they must learn the hard way.
