Twice a year, every American shopper should go to a dollar store. There is no good reason to pay more money for things you can buy cheaper at a dollar store than Wal-Mart. Buy such things as toiletries, detergents, and paper products.
Things really are cheaper at dollar stores. They are also easier to find than in some cavernous Costco store or a Wal-Mart supercenter. There is always a clerk close at hand who knows where things are. You can get help. Try that at Wal-Mart.
You save both time and money at dollar stores.
It doesn't pay to run lots of errands weekly. They eat up gasoline and time.
But if you make a shopping list and head for a dollar store twice a year, you can save money. Buy in bulk.
If you want to prove this to yourself, just once, make a list of items you buy regularly at a supermarket, but not food items. Go to your favorite supermarket. Check prices. If you want, use your cell phone to take pictures.
Then head for a dollar store. Buy five of every item that is cheaper.
Note: keep the list on Evernote.
