Maybe you have noticed that the quality of appliances with moving parts is not what it used to be.
As quality declines, your risk of ownership increases.
To offset this risk, I buy maintenance contracts.
I always buy these when I buy a new computer locally. I cannot afford down time. I buy at Best Buy because of the Geek Squad. Twice in the last six weeks, the Geek Squad has bailed me out on two different new computers.
I don't buy an insurance contract for other electronic goods, such as consumer goods. I figure a flat screen TV will work. If not, I'll send it back.
I can do without it for two weeks.
