Shelf Speakers
Aug. 4, 2012
I use a pair of speakers that sit on either side of my computer screen. They sound as good as I need. They have an amplifier built in. They don't have treble/bass controls. They have only a volume control.
My hearing has gone the way of all flesh. After age 35, men's ability to hear higher frequencies declines steadily. When you can finally afford a superb sound system, you can't hear the difference any longer. Here is a graph. Grim.
I don't have time to listen to a top-flight system during my work day. I have one upstairs, but I use it only to movies and "Sunday Morning."
These speakers are as good as I need at my desk. They take up little space. They cost about $300. That's not cheap, but if you listen to music on them for 5 years, it's cheap.
